Custom Domains

Serve your short links from your own hostname, such as go.example.com, with HTTPS and app association files handled for you.

Every project starts with a hosted domain on golander.link, assigned when the project is created. If you want links on your own brand, add a custom domain such as go.example.com. Lander issues the HTTPS certificate and serves apple-app-site-association and assetlinks.json on it automatically.

Open Domains from the Build section of the navigation.

Growth and Scale

Adding a custom domain needs the Growth plan or higher; on Starter the Add custom domain button links to Billing instead. Domains you already connected keep serving links on every plan. See Features by plan.

Who can change domains

Owners, admins and developers can add, verify, remove and change the default domain. Marketers can see the list but not change it.

The domains list

The table shows every domain of the project:

ColumnWhat it shows
HostnameThe domain. The project's default domain has a Default badge.
TypeHosted (the golander.link domain) or Custom.
StatusPending verification or Verified. A verified custom domain whose certificate is not active yet also shows the certificate state, for example "Certificate pending validation".
LinksHow many links use the domain.
AddedWhen the domain was added.

Domains belong to the project and work in both test and live mode.

Add a custom domain

Pick a hostname

Use a subdomain you control, like go.example.com. It should not serve anything else, because Lander answers every request on it. You cannot add names under golander.link: those are assigned automatically.

Add it in the dashboard

Select Add custom domain, enter the Hostname and select Add domain. The domain appears in the list as Pending verification, with a Finish setting up card below it.

Add two DNS records

At your DNS provider, add the two records from the card. Select a value to copy it.

TypeNameValuePurpose
TXT_lander-challenge.go.example.comlander-verification=<token>Proves you own the domain
CNAMEgo.example.comcname.golander.linkSends clicks to Lander

The token is unique to your domain and is shown on the card.

Verify

Select Verify domain. Lander looks both records up over DNS and checks the certificate. DNS changes usually show up within minutes, so if a record is not found yet, wait a little and verify again. The card marks each record as found or not found and explains what is missing.

What counts as verified

The TXT record is what verifies the domain. As soon as it is found, the domain is Verified and links on it work right away.

If the CNAME is still missing, the domain is verified but you see a reminder to point it at cname.golander.link so links resolve. The HTTPS certificate follows once the CNAME is in place, so a verified domain can show a pending certificate for a few minutes.

To run the checks again later, open the domain's menu and choose Check DNS again.

Make it the default

Once a custom domain is verified, open its menu and choose Make default. New links, and links created from the SDK, use the default domain. Existing links keep the domain they were created on.

You can only put links on verified domains of the same project. Verified custom domains show up in the link editor's domain picker.

Set up your app for the new domain

Lander serves the association files on your custom domain from the same platform settings as the hosted domain, so there is nothing to configure in the dashboard. Your app still needs to know about the new domain:

Add the domain to your Associated Domains entitlement, next to your hosted domain:

applinks:go.example.com

See iOS setup for the full entitlement.

Ship an app update with the new domain before you share links on it, so people who tap them land in the app.

Remove a custom domain

Open the domain's menu and choose Remove, then Remove domain. Lander stops serving links and .well-known files on it.

  • The default domain cannot be removed. Make another domain the default first.
  • A domain that still has links cannot be removed. Move or delete those links first.
  • The hosted golander.link domain cannot be removed.
